College of Teacher Education (CTE) snatched the 16-year overall championship title from College of Arts and Sciences for this year’s Intramurals. Hauling 101 gold medals, 48 silver medals, and 40 bronze medals, CTE authored championship record in the long title chase.
As the overall champion was announced, Educators rushed roaring to the inner court, waving blue flags as a celebration of their victory. It was a picture of ecstasy as CTE screamed, jumped up and down and clutched the golden trophy which was deprived of them by College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) for a decade and six years.
CTE lambasted other departments in Athletics, Chess, Basketball Women’s Division, Volleyball Men’s Division, Karatedo Women, Swimming, Table Tennis Women Category and Badminton Women which cleared the road for them to finally bag the title.
Meanwhile, College of Arts and Sciences fell-short with only 39 gold medals, 67 silver medals and 32 bronze. They were the long-running champion without interruption but this year wasn’t meant for them. They placed First Runner-up on the list.
According to Honorable AiphrelleUy, Council of Liberal Arts and Sciences Students (CLASS) governor that the problem for this year’s Intramurals lay on the lack of athletes. She already knew since the preparation time that there’s a chance that CAS couldn’t make it. She also denied that insufficient fund for the athletes is the reason for CAS’ fall.
“I feel very sad to know that that we were not able to defend our title as champions but despite that I feel so honored knowing that even if our athletes are few, they tried their best and it shows, even if first place ta, to make us champions again” she, however, added.
Uy also stated that CAS should give themselves time to prepare well for the next year’s competition and that CTE should be given a chance to triumph,
“..let them feel how it feels to be champions” she said.
“Lalaban pa rintayo and of course, CAS pa rin. So I believe karon it gives a lot of lesson and that is to further rise next year” she further emphasized.
CNU Medellin tailed in 2nd runner-up, accumulating 29 gold medals, 30 silver medals and 38 bronze, while CNU-Balambanranked 3rd runner up with 8 gold medals, 16 silver and 20 bronze medals. College of Nursing was left behind on the last spot which earned 6 silver medals, 11 bronze medals with no gold medal.

This year’s Intramurals hinged on the theme: “Sustaining Quality and Relevance through Culture and Sports” which had drawn a new history of Cebu Normal University. Nevertheless, CNU Intramurals always holds the same goal- to provide students opportunities to engage in physical activities and the talents heretofore unrecognized to be given avenues.
